SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING STRATEGY THROUGH WRITING RELAY IN IMPROVING DESCRIPTIVE WRITING SKILLS TO THE SEVENTH GRADERS OF SMP AL FALAH CENDEKIA
The Merdeka Curriculum highlights writing as one of the essential competencies students must master. In Phase D (Grades VII–IX of SMP/MTs), students are expected to express ideas and experiences through coherent, well-organized paragraphs with varied yet simple sentence structures that include essential information and supporting details. Nevertheless, writing remains one of the most challenging skills to acquire due to students’ limited vocabulary, low motivation, and the absence of effective learning strategies. This study investigates the effectiveness of integrating cooperative learning strategies with specific instructional methods to enhance students’ writing performance. The approach employed was the cooperative learning strategy through the writing relay method. The research was conducted at SMP Al Falah Cendekia, Srumbung, Magelang, during the 2024/2025 academic year, involving two classes: Grade 7A as the experimental group (writing relay) and Grade 7C as the control group (group discussion). An experimental research design was implemented, and data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments. The findings indicated that the experimental class achieved a greater score improvement (22.7) compared to the control class (12.5). The independent sample t-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.001), while the N-gain analysis demonstrated moderate effectiveness (56.56%). These results confirm that the cooperative learning strategy through writing relay significantly improves students’ writing achievement and fosters a more active, participatory, and meaningful learning environment.
