SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL ERROR IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITTEN BY EIGHTH GRADERS OF SMPN 1 MUNTILAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020

Grammar is a structure in linguistics that has functions to organize the sentence well. Grammar is the rules that govern how language and sentences are formed. Many students commonly make grammar errors in their learning, especially in writing.
This research is about the analyzing students’ grammatical errors in descriptive text. The aim of this research is to find out types and dominant grammatical error in descriptive texts written by Eighth Graders of SMPN 1 Muntilan in academic years 2019/2020.
The type of research used was qualitative research. The writer used documentation to collect the data. In this research, the writer chooses the 25 texts of the students of a class VIII E in SMPN 1 Muntilan academic year 2019/2020.
The result of this research shows that there are four types of errors that occurred in this research. The most error occurred is substitution (61 or 42,6%), the second place goes to omission (44 or 30,8%), the third and the last is the same between addition and permutation (19 or 13,3%).
