SKRIPSI USING MOVIE TRAILER AS A TEACHING MEDIA TO IMPROVE NARRATIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF NINTH GRADERS AT SMP MUHAMMADIYAH PLUS GUNUNGPRING IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2020/2021

ABSTRACT
KARTIKO (2020): Using Movie Trailer as a Teaching Media to Improve Narrative Text Writing Skill of Ninth Graders at SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Gunungpring in the School Year 2020/2021. A Paper: Magelang, English Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Tidar University.
Writing is one of the skills which is very important to be learned because it is a process of expressing the idea, opinion, and information in written language. Based on writer observation on the ninth graders of SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Gunungpring, the students writing skills of narrative text is not satisfactory yet. The average score of the narrative writing test is 68.6 less than the standard minimum score which is 75. Few factors influence student’s achievement.
In a covid-19 pandemic, the teachers used Google Teams as a medium to hold virtual classes. In the teaching-learning process during virtual class, a lot of students muted their mic and turned off their camera so they became passive during the class. Therefore, they could not understand the material well. The writer concluded that the students still had low motivation in writing class.
There are two main objectives of this research. The first was to know whether the use of Movie Trailer as a Teaching Media can improve the learning motivation of the narrative text writing skill of the ninth graders of SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Gunungpring in the school year 2020/2021 or not. The second was to know how great the improvement of the narrative text writing skill of the ninth graders of SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Gunungpring in the school year 2020/2021 is.
The writer conducted classroom action research which was divided into Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The Writer took the IX B class of SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Gunungpring as the subject of the research because they had a low average score on the writing test. The class had 23 students, consist of 9 males and 14 females. The technique of collecting data used were test and non-test data.
As the result, the writer found that using Movie Trailer as a Teaching Media in teaching narrative text writing skills of the ninth graders of SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Gunungpring had improved their learning motivation. Then the result of the test, the students’ average score was increased after they had taught by using Movie Trailer as a teaching media. In pre-cycle, the students’ average score was 68.60, which belonged to the fair category. In cycle I the students’ average score reach 76.17, it categorized as a good category. The improvement from pre-cycle to cycle I was 7.57 points. The average score in cycle II was 81.86 and it belonged to the good category. The improvement from cycle I to cycle II is 5.69 points. The total improvement from pre-cycle to cycle II was 13.26 points. The student’s average score was passed the performance indicator.
