SKRIPSI USING GUIDED WRITING TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF MA AL IMAN MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2020/2021 IN THE PANDEMIC ERA OF COVID 19

According to the writer's observation, the tenth graders of MA Al Iman Magelang are mostly still limited in vocabulary. Meanwhile, when their English teachers ask them to write the descriptive text, they just write some sentences in a paragraph. Therefore, they cannot develop the paragraph that they write. This problem makes their average writing score were 60. There were internal and external factors that made students score less than standard learning target 70. The internal factors may came from the students themselves. First, discussing the internet speed in the students’ area (where they are life) was different. It makes students’ area that has a slow internet speed difficult to follow online learning. Second, the students are excited to join in the first online learning activity, but it just in a short term. Sometimes, students feel bored with it so when their teacher gives the task, some students prefer not to do their task. The other factors from students are they always confuse to decide the stories that they want to write. This research is focus on the student’s difficulty in writing a descriptive text and their ability that is still limited. The writer carried this research as a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The writer conducted this research through Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The writer used questionnaire, observation, documentation, and test to collect the data in each cycle. Based on the data result, the writer concludes that Guided writing technique can increase the students’ learning motivation of descriptive text writing. The students had high motivation and there was good improvement of students’ descriptive text writing skill after taught using Guided writing technique. More than 75% of the students get the score 70. The results of this research are that the mean score in Precycle is 58,19 the mean score in Cycle I is 68.06 and for Cycle II is 86.57. There is good improvement from the result test of Pre-cycle to Cycle I and Cycle II tests. The improvement from Pre-cycle to Cycle II is 28.37. The writer concludes that the use of Guided writing technique can increase the learning motivation in descriptive text writing skill and there is a great improvement in descriptive text writing skill of the tenth graders MA Al Iman Magelang in the academic year 2020/2021. The writer suggests that Guided writing technique can be applied by the teacher and the students in teaching and learning process of writing descriptive text.
