SKRIPSI STUDENTS’ LEARNING STYLES IN ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA N 1 KOKAP, KULON PROGO, YOGYAKARTA IN THE SCHOOL YEAR OF 2019/2020

Learning style refers to students' way of getting information which is learner prefers to. Learners may devided into some different kind of learning. Learning styles have been defined as “an individual’s natural, habitual and preferred way(s) of absorbing, processing, and retaining new information and skills” (Reid 1995). There are 6 kinds of learning style. Those are visual learner, auditory learner, kinesthetic learner, tactile learner, group learner and individual learner. There are two main objectives of this research. The first is to analyze the types of students learning style. The second is to find out which are the most dominant types of learning style found in the tenth graders of SMA N 1 KOKAP, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta in the school year of 2019/2020 based on Reid theory (1995). The research used descriptive qualitative and analyzed the learning style of the tenth graders of SMA N 1 KOKAP. The writer collected the data through questionnaire and interview. There were 30 students participated in this research, they came from social class and science class, male and female students were participated. The data were analyzed by classified and identified the types of learning style based on the theory of Reid. The result showed that group learner as one of the learning style had the highest percentage with 30%, while tactile learner had the least percentage with 6.6%. Meanwhile visual learner had 10 %, auditory learner had 26.6 %, kinesthetic learner had 13.4% and individual learner had 13.4%. As the conclusion, all the type of learning styles based on the theory of Reid (1995) has been found by the writer. The most dominant type of learning style that can be found in the tenth graders of SMA N 1 KOKAP in the school year of 2019/2020 is group learner. The writer expected that the teacher should be aware of the students’ learning style and the students should also develop their speaking skill by using their own way of learning.
