SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF DEIXIS IN NETLIX’S MOVIE SERIES SCRIPT “13 REASONS WHY” BY: JAY ASHER AND ITS PEDAGOGICAL IMPLICATIONS

Language is a human communication system. Human need language because it delivers someone opinion, feelings, and desires as a human. Linguistics is the study of that system. Semantics and Pragmatics are one of the branch in linguistics. This study helps teacher and students to have deeper understanding of linguistics especially in deixis. In this research, here are three main objectives. The first is to analyze the types of deixis in movie series script “13 Reasons Why” By Jay Asher. The second is to find the type of deixis that dominantly found. The last one is to find the pedagogical implications of this research in English language teaching. To present and analyze the data findings, this research used descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research was the script of 13 Reasons Why movie series by Jay Asher. The unit of analysis were every sentences in the movie script. The techniques used in collecting the data were documentation method. The result shows that there were 3313 data which contained deixis. Writer found this study could be used as an example and applied in the teaching process. This study is suitable for teaching in Senior High School grade 10. Appropriate in Core Competence 3.1 and Basic Competence 4.1, so it will contribute as a medium for teaching in Transactional Interaction Text; Information Related to Identity and Family Relations. These materials need a lot of pronoun, so the teacher may use this kind of steps by using a part of the script as an example or task so that students can easily understand the material. The pedagogical implication of this research is that the understanding of deixis can help students have deeper understanding in learning English. Therefore, the understanding of deixis helps students to avoid misunderstanding and accustom them to be used to use English not only in classroom activity but also in their daily life. Teacher can use 13 Reasons Why movie in the listening section as the example to be shown to the students. As a real example of how deixis is actually often used and how it affects the meaning of a conversation. From that students able to elaborate and implement it on their daily communication.
