Songs is one of the literary works used as English learning material in senior high school, according to Curriculum 2013 revised edition. As a learning material, songs have different language styles. The song lyrics tend to differ from standard texts and have many linguistic deviations, including grammatical deviations. Therefore, the writer analyzed Maroon 5’s song lyrics to find the types and the dominant grammatical deviation type found in Maroon 5’s song lyrics. The research applied descriptive qualitative and analyzed seven songs by Maroon 5. Those songs were purposively chosen due to the grammatical deviations contained in the lyrics. The data were analyzed by classifying and identifying the types of grammatical deviation based on the theory of grammatical deviations from Leech (1969) and Budiharto (2018). The results showed that there were 51 deviated sentences or lyrics that contained 58 grammatical deviations. From those 58 grammatical deviations, the omission of subject was the most dominantly found in the song lyrics with 29 data (50%). It was followed by the omission of linking verbs (25.9%), deviation of verbs (12.1%), double negations (8.6%) and omission of objects (3.4%). As a result, the research suggested some implications for English language learning. First, this research would give awareness for teachers about songs that song lyrics contains lots of linguistic deviations, including grammatical deviations. Second, this research would motivate students in terms of grammar through song lyrics in which it has different language styles compared to other common texts. Third, the results of this research would improve students listening skills in terms of recognition of words from the song lyrics.
