Since March 2020, Indonesia has been infected by Covid-19 virus. With this condition, Indonesian government decided to make a new policy especially for the education field. The education system in Indonesia was changing from face to face learning to online learning that aimed to avoid the spread of Covid-19 virus. Schools in Indonesia have to conduct online learning, and one of them is SMAN 2 Temanggung. The researcher taught as pre pre-service teacher at SMAN 2 Temanggung. In this research, the researcher focused on investigating the condition of the class during online English class, and also the benefits and challenges faced by the pre-service teacher and the students of X IPS 1. This research was qualitative research, in the form of a case study. To obtain the data, the researcher did observation during the online teaching and learning process to observe the condition of online class, distributed questionnaires, and interviewed the students to know the benefits and challenges found by the students of X IPS 1. The researcher also noted some points about the benefits and challenges found by her as a pre-service teacher during online teaching at SMAN 2 Temanggung. Furthermore, during the online teaching practice, the researcher found that the condition of the class during online learning is different from offline learning. In online learning, there was a lack of interaction between the students and pre-service teachers, and the students tended to be passive in online class, and it was not conducive. Then, there were some benefits and challenges found by the researcer as a pre-service teacher in teaching English online at SMAN 2 Temanggung, and the students of X IPS 1 also found some benefits and challenges during online English learning.
