SKRIPSI THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS' ADJECTIVE ORDERING PREFERENCE AND TRANSLATION SKILL OF THE SEVENTH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT TIDAR UNIVERSITY

Students’ English proficiency cannot be separated from the transfer of information. Nevertheless, students’ less understanding of the grammatical rule and their inability to translate are ELT barriers. The writer is interested in analyzing the correlation between students’ adjective ordering preference and translation skill. The writer wants to know the level of students’ adjective ordering preference and translation skill of seventh-semester students of the English Department at Tidar University. In addition, the quantitative method is used to know the correlation between the two variables. The hypothesis testing showed that the value of coefficient correlation was 0.279. The value of significance 0.145 indicates a low correlation since it was lower than 5%. The result showed a positive relationship between students’ adjective ordering preference and translation skills. Students’ scores on both tests were categorized as “Good” since the average score showed 77.44 and 78.87. In conclusion, there is no correlation between students’ adjective ordering preference and translation skills of seventh-semester students at the English Department at Tidar University in the academic year of 2020/2021. In suggestion, the writer suggests the lecturer is expected to galvanize the students to be more aware of the natural use of adjectives in order. Giving the students feedback on the errors will be benign for both lecturer and students to analyze the weaknesses. The students also expected to know the use of adjectives in order which natives usually speak. In addition, this research is expected to be beneficial for emphasizing the emerge of natural use of English, especially in the English Department of Tidar University.
