Many Indonesian students do not aware with the rules of English word stress placement. This problem leads to inappropriate word stress placement when they produce English words. With commonly making mistakes in delivering words stress means many Indonesian students are not high intelligible. Intelligibility is when the production of a word is clear enough for a listener to understand. There were two objectives of this research. The first one was to analyse the distribution of word stress pronunciation rating produced by second semester EFS class students of Tidar University in the academic year 2020/2021. Then, it was to find out the dominant rating of word stress pronunciation rating produced by second semester EFS class students of Tidar University in the academic year 2020/2021. The research was a descriptive qualitative. The writer gave a handout containing twenty sentences to be read by twenty students. Each student read the handout and recorded their pronunciation. The audio recordings were gathered to be analysed by the raters. There were two raters in this research. They were English lecturers of English Education Department of Tidar University. Based on the research, the distribution of word stress ratings was similar but the production of wrong stress placement was varied. The most dominant rating was 4. There were eight students got 3 rating (45%), eleven students got 4 rating (55%), and one student got 5 rating (5%). Therefore, the writer concluded that many students still produced misplacements in word stress. The writer suggested the English lecturers to give more lesson about English word stress pronunciation for their students. The students should evaluate their word stress pronunciation rating. Thus, for the other researchers might conduct different aspect of pronunciation to have more complete results about pronunciation research.
