SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING THE USE OF MICROSOFT TEAMS AS THE LEARNING MEDIA OF TEACHING IN VIRTUAL WRITING CLASS

Writing skill requires more attention because it is the highest level of difficulty than other skills; listening, speaking, and reading. Enhancing the ability in writing skill can allow the students to communicate their ideas with clarity. Unfortunately, Covid-19 affects the education aspect, the Minister of Education and Culture, appliances the Circular Number 4 of 2020 about the School from Home (SFH). It forced to replace the face-to-face class with the online learning or virtual class. Related to the virtual writing class,the teacher needs to use the preferable learning media in teaching writing. Meanwhile, the students are not interested in taking the class through video conferencing.. Therefore, Microsoft Teams can be used as the learning media in teaching a virtual writing class. Since there are only a few teachers or schools that take an advantage of the use of it. Hence, the writer decided to investigate the use of Microsoft Teams as the learning media in teaching a virtual writing class. This study used a case study. The subject of this research is (X Science and Math 2) in SMA N 3 Magelang that consists of 36 students. To gain the data, the writer applied observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The observation and the interview was gained to know the teacher’s implementation of using Microsoft Teams in virtual writing class, The questionnaire was used to know the students’ perception of Microsoft Teams. The documentation was used to give a real evidence of the data result. The result showed that in teaching virtual writing class, the teacher used the lesson plan as a guidance of teaching. The teacher carried out the virtual writing class by utilizing the conversation feature of the Microsoft Teams. Hence, 86.1% or 31 out of 36 students perceived that the Microsoft Teams platform is a good learning media to learn writing in virtual class. It was proven from the students’ assignment, most of the students get more than 80 on writing assignment. The teacher argued that the platform is helpful to use in the distance learning. Therefore, it can be concluded that Microsoft Teams is indicated as a good learning media of teaching in virtual writing class. The writer give a suggestions to the teacher to extend their creativity to create a fun virtual classroom atmosphere. In addition, the teacher needs to be up to date towards utilizing the technology-based learning media.
