SKRIPSI USING “TWENTY QUESTIONS” GAME TO IMPROVE DESCRIPTIVE TEXT SPEAKING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH GRADERS SMPN 8 MAGELANG IN SCHOOL YEAR 2020/2021

Speaking is one of the four skills that have to be mastered as a foreign language. A lot of students are less motivated and afraid to speak English in front of the class. This study was conducted in order to improve students’ speaking skill of seventh graders of SMPN 8 Magelang in the school year of 2020/2021 through “Twenty Questions” game. This research aims to find empirical evidence of whether or not “Twenty Questions” game is effective in teaching descriptive text speaking skill to the seventh graders student of SMPN 8 Magelang. The objectives of this research are to explain the students’ motivation in descriptive text speaking skill, and also to describe the improvement of descriptive text speaking skill after the implementation of “Twenty Questions” game. The methodology of this research was Class Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was VII b students of SMPN 8 Magelang in the school year of 2020/2021, due to the covid 19 pandemic outbreak and government policies, the researcher only took a few samples from the total number of class 7b. The researcher took 14 students in class 7b with permission from the school and applied the rules of the government health protocol. The writer used test and non-test to collect the data. The test is about (oral) speaking test while the non-test are observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The writer noted all of the processes during learning motivation. The finding of this study showed that based on questionnaire and observation, the use of role play to teach recount text’s speaking skill increase the students’ activeness and confident. The result of the research showed in Pre-cycle is 56.75, Cycle I is 63.2, and Cycle II is 77. It means using “Twenty Questions” game improve students’ speaking score in some aspects such as pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and accuracy. There is great improvement of descriptive text’s speaking skill and improve the students’ motivation in learning speaking after being taught by using “Twenty Questions” game.
