This study was about Conversation Analysis in ELT. This research had two purposes. The first was to find the most dominant aspect in conversation and the second was to know teacher’s role as reflective practice at high school education grade X. Brown and Yule (2007) define conversation analysis as "the analysis of the language used". The conversation between the teacher and students was the object of the study because the writer saw a lack of student understanding of learning when the teacher explained the material in English. This study was qualitative research design. The data of this study were taken from conversation between the teacher and students in senior high school grade X. The method used in collecting the data was documentation. For the steps in analyzing the data the writer did some steps such as: taking the data, transcribe the conversation in the voice recording, identifying and analyzing the data, find the most dominant aspect, and making conclusion. In analyzing the data, the writer described the conversation analysis based on the theory of conversation analysis by Yule (2007). The result of this study showed that there were 3 aspects and 1 style of conversation analysis: pauses, overlaps, backchannel, and conversation style (high considerateness style). The aspect that often appeared in conversations in class was pauses with the expression "hmm" with the total percentage 81.25%. The teacher's role in reflective practice was the teacher did the lesson well so the students had started to be brave even though they were still not confident enough to answer the teacher's questions. Thus, the writer concluded that the teacher could make students more courageous even though they were lack confidence in answering questions. It is because there were many pauses with the signal "hmm" during the learning in class.
