SKRIPSI THE COLLOCATION OF READING TEXT MATERIAL IN THE ENGLISH LKS BOOK FOR SEVENTH GRADERS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Collocation is an essential material for students in understanding and interpreting texts in reading. In studying reading texts, students do not know and understand about collocation. There are a lot of collocations in student textbooks that could affect the accuracy of students in reading and understanding the word. Although collocation has never been taught in schools, there have been so many collocations found in textbooks so, it is essential to teach in schools. There are reasons why collocation development is slow and difficult. This is becoming a significant issue to be imposed in Curriculum 2013. While learning an international language, English competency for students is needed. Many learners do not know about collocation. Students usually not aware of using words in sentences because they don’t know about collocation. So, learning collocation cannot be done by opening a dictionary and learning all the words there.
There are two main objectives in this study. First, to learn the types of collocation in reading text materials in the English LKS book. Second, to find out the dominant collocation of reading text materials in the English LKS book.
Qualitative is the method used in this study to analyze and present data findings. For the subject, this study is the English LKS book. The unit of analysis is 20 reading text materials. The technique used in collecting the data is the table of collocation.
The result shows are 75 collocations of 20 reading text materials English LKS book for seventh graders of Junior High School. The type of collocation in the reading text materials found most frequent was schema, which, appeared 73%. Meanwhile, the dominant collocation of reading text materials is 28%.
Most learning English collocation at school starts from reading the text first. Collocation in the reading text materials can be a remarkable medium that inspires the learners to understand a word an English sentence. It is fun media, though. As a result, the teaching and learning process emerges to be unique and compelling.
