In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative methods according to Miles and Huberman (1994). In this study, the researcher applies two principles of validity. They are reliable to test the reliability of the investigator using the investigative triangle method. Meanwhile, to get reliability, the researcher provides a detailed explanation of the data. The results showed that of the 58 directive utterances in the Pathway English Text textbook for eleventh graders, 7 data were identified as commands, 38 as requests, 6 as suggestions, 7 invitations and 1 as warning. It can be concluded that the type of directive speech act is based on Yule's theory.
