The aim of this research is 1) To find out the kinds of directive speech act found on Written Conversation in English Textbook Entitled "Pathway To English" Used By Eleventh Graders 2) To find out the dominant type of directive speech acts found in Written Conversation in English Textbook Entitled "Pathway to English" Used By Eleventh Graders. This analysis was developed as a descriptive research method. The data in this study are all conversations written in the Pathway to English for Eleven Graders text book. The subject of the research is a directive speech acts uttered by a character in an English textbook entitled "Pathway To English" used by Eleventh Graders.The instrument analysis is the researcher himself. Researchers can collect data by observing conversations,collecting conversations, recording data in notebooks based on textbook criteria that are relevant to the research objectives, and finally classifying data according to directive speech act theory by Yule . In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative methods according to Miles and Huberman (1994). In this study, the researcher applies two principles of validity. They are reliable to test the reliability of the investigator using the investigative triangle method. Meanwhile, to get reliability, the researcher provides a detailed explanation of the data. The results showed that of the 58 directive utterances in the Pathway English Text textbook for eleventh graders, 7 data were identified as commands, 38 as requests, 6 as suggestions, 7 invitations and 1 as warning. It can be concluded that the type of directive speech act is based on Yule's theory. The most dominant frequency directive speech act in the Pathway to English textbook for the eleventh grade is request with a frequency of 66% from 100%. This research is expected to provide useful information to understand what directive speech act behavior is . The resracher hopes that teachers and students can not only generate and discover directive speech act in school, but also understand why and how people react to it.
