SKRIPSI DEVELOPING A STRATEGY TO TEACH DESCRIPTIVE TEXT TO THE TENTH GRADERS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL BY USING TOWN MEETING

Writing is one of four basic skills which has more complexities than the other skills. In writing, the writer generally has to follow the standardization of vocabulary, structure, and grammar. Usually, the students got difficulties in writing because they did not have any idea about what to write. Based on the writer’s observation, the tenth-grade students got difficulties in word choice and elaborating their idea to write. This study aimed to develop a strategy based on Town Meeting strategy from Mel Silberman and could it be worth to be implemented in teaching descriptive text writing skill for tenth-grade students. This study was categorized as simple Research and Development (R&D) study. The writer used ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) based on Branch’s (2009) theory. The writer could not conduct the “implement” process because of the pandemic condition so people cannot meet in gathering activity. Since the “implement” process could not be conducted, the writer used experts’ judgment to validate the development of the strategy. The subjects of this study were tenth-grade students of SMA N 2 Temanggung. The research instruments were documentation, an open-ended questionnaire for students as the needs analysis, experts’ judgment questionnaire, and interview questions to the experts. The result of this study was the development of strategy design based on Town Meeting Strategy. The writer developed the strategy which was usually conducted to teach speaking skill to be used in teaching writing skill. According to the experts’ judgments result, the experts agreed that the strategy development could be implemented to teach descriptive text writing skill for tenth-grade students of senior high school. The result of this study was expected to give more choices for the teachers to find teaching strategy for teaching writing skill. The students were expected to be able to explore their idea so they could write easier.
