English is a favorite subject at Indonesian schools. Many students want to learn English, especially speaking. However, sometimes there are some difficulties in learning English. Moreover, in the pandemic era, the government prohibits schools to conduct face to face learning, so the teaching and learning process is conducted virtually. Virtual learning is an alternative way so that teachers are able meet face to face on the screen and can control their students. Yet, students and teachers have limitation to communicate each other, so teachers must have a way to keep students active in learning. The writer was interested in conducting this studybecause the writer saw the conditions at a school where students were passive in learning, especially English. At SMPN 1 Muntilan, the teacher uses questioning strategy in teaching, and this is to help students learn English, especially in listening and speaking. The survey aims to analyze the types and main types of teacher questioning strategies used by English teachers in virtual classroom interactions. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Muntilan with the English teacher as the subject during the 2020-2021 school year. The writer used qualitative descriptive approach with the data collection technique consisting of field notes, video records, and questionnaires. The learning videos were recorded and questionnaires were spread to 104 respondents of seven classes. The study results show that the English teacher at SMPN 1 Muntilan used the virtual classroom teaching questioning strategy. The teacher also used three types of questioning strategies based on Long and Sato's theory (1983), namely, display questions, referential questions and procedural questions. It could be stated that the dominant type used by teachers is to require performance. The teacher asked more questions about the learning materials. Based on questionnaire results, students like the teacher's questions because theywill learn to listen and speak by answering their teacher's questions. Besides, the writer also found several obstacles, such as signals, faint sounds, and incorrect time of learning. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that teacher interview strategies can help students learn English, especially listening and speaking. Therefore, to anticipateobstacles during learning, it would be better for teacher and students to prepare for learning. Before learning begins, it would be nice for the teacher to send meeting invitations to students and remind students to prepare to start learning. In this way, the learning process can be on time and without problems.
