Dialogue is crucial for students, however there are some problems that are faced by students such as difficult to understand the content or the message of the dialogue, misunderstand what the other person is saying, and confused to give a response to the dialogue. Those problems has a relation with mood adjunct because mood adjunct is a realization from interpersonal meaning of the dialogue. Thus, the writer analyzed the mood adjunct in the dialogue materials of English textbook to help the students understand the context of the dialogue and know how to give the feedback of the dialogue. There were two objectives of this study. The first was to find out the types of mood adjuncts stated in the dialogue in the English textbook for tenth graders. The second was to describe mood adjuncts types dominantly found in the dialogue in the English textbook for tenth graders. The data were taken from an English textbook for tenth graders students written by Utami Widiati, Zuliati Rohmah, and Furaidah. While the method that the writer used was content analysis method. Content analysis method was chosen because the writer analyzed the content of the dialogue which had relation with mood adjunct because it is a realization from interpersonal meaning of the dialogue. The results revealed that there are 5 types of mood adjunct appeared in those dialogue materials of English textbook such as adjunct of polarity 55.6 %. Adjunct of usuality 7.40%, adjunct of obligation 3.7%, adjunct of time 18.5%, and adjunct of intensity 14.8%. Adjunct of polarity shows the negative and positive statement even though it has the opposite meaning. Sometimes, it shows the agreement of someone statement and the capability. Thus, in page 40-41 about Holiday plans there are a lot of words such as yes, no, not, can, cannot, too, don’t, so, and other which are categorizes as a mark for adjunct of polarity which is made this types of adjunct becomes the dominant type that appears 30 times. On the other hand, adjunct of obligation becomes the minimum type of mood adjunct which is appears 2 times on the page 40-41 and 43-44 about Holiday plans. On those pages, definitely is the word that express the certainty of someone statement. Adjunct of obligation is the lowest adjunct which arises because only the materials in page 40-41 and 43-44 that shows someone’s earnest expression. For this reason, the writer suggests that in the future, the similar research on the interpersonal meaning can be conducted by analyzing tenor mode of discourse to get deeper understanding the social relationship such as status and power between those taking parts in a conversation.
