SKRIPSI DEVELOPING GROUP-TO-GROUP STRATEGY TO TEACH WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT FOR THE TENTH GRADERS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Writing is one of the language skills which is very important in learning a language especially for English Foreign Language learner. The writer found that students at SMA N 1 Grabag had difficulties in learning language, especially while studying writing descriptive text. The writer found that the students were lack of vocabulary, grammar and they were still confused to arrange the sentences. Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing. This research aimed to develop a strategy based on the Group-to-Group strategy by Mel Silberman and could it be effective to be implemented in teaching writing descriptive text skill for tenth-grade students. This research is categorized as simple Research and Development (R&D) study. The writer used the procedure from Sugiyono (2012). The subject of this research was tenth-grade students of SMA N 1 Grabag. The research instruments were documentation, open & close-ended questionnaires for students, and expert judgment questionnaires for the experts. The result of this research is the development strategy design based on Groupto-Group Exchange. The writer developed the strategy which is usually conducted to teach speaking skill to be writing skill. According to the expert’ judgments, the experts agreed that the strategy development can be implemented to teach writing descriptive text for tenth-grade students of senior high school. The result of the research shows that the strategy design can be implemented to help the students to improve their writing descriptive text ability. The writer suggested the students should practice more to be able to write descriptive text correctly.
