SKRIPSI INTERROGATIVE MOOD IN THE CONVERSATIONS FOUND ON ELEVENTH GRADE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEXTBOOK

Textbook is a learning media that help students in the learning process. Textbook presents the materials which includes listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through various activities such as conversational text given. In the conversation text, students lack knowledge about the types of interrogative sentences which will reduce students' ability to answer questions in a conversation appropriately. The objectives of this study were to explain the realization of Interrogative Mood based on Halliday & Matthiessen (2004) and the dominant of Interrogative Mood system in textbook. The object of this study was an English Textbook for Eleventh Grade Senior High School published by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia. This study is qualitative research. The writer used descriptive analysis to analyze the data. The data taken was the conversation text in English Textbook for Eleventh Grade Senior High School published by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia. The result showed that the 2 types of Interrogative Mood appear on that textbook. There are 12 WH Interrogative Mood and 11 Yes/No Interrogative Mood. However, there are 9 question sentence that are not included in the Interrogative Mood. In the WH Interrogative Mood that appears, the WH Complement is incomplete and the number is not balanced. It can be concluded that WH Interrogative Mood was the most dominant Interrogative Mood system on that textbook. A complete WH Complement exposure in the conversation improves the quality of the conversation material in the textbook. A balanced number of WH Interrogatives and Yes/No Interrogatives also make interrogative sentences more varied.
