An investigating of speech acts in “Oedipus The King” drama translated by David Grene: implication of creative writing in ELT materials are motivated by the lacks of understanding of speech acts materials in creative writing class. Kinds and function of speech acts contained in the drama can be used by the students to learn deeper in speech acts in specific and help them to carried out some problem in creative writing class in general. The objectives of this study are: (1) to investigate the types and the function of speech act used in Oedipus the King Translated by David Grene as the implications of creative writing in developing ELT material; (2) to describe the most dominant types and the function of speech act used in Oedipus the King Translated by David Grene in the implications of creative writing in developing ELT materials. All of he theoretical foundation used in this undergraduate thesis are using Yule (1996) theory, the pragmatics, and speech acts theory. The research types of this undergraduate thesis is qualitative research. This research is focused on the types and function of speech acts used in the drama. The data source for this research is Oedipus The King drama script by David Grene. The data are in the form of sentences and paragraph containing speech acts types and function. The data collection technique used is documentation. The results of the research on speech acts types and function in Oedipus The King are in the form of types of speech acts including Locutionary (48.96%); Illocutionary (15.63%), and Perlocutionary (35.42%), and the function of speech acts including Representative (32.81%); Directive (11.98%); Commisive (4.17%); Expressive (48.44%); and Declarative (2.60%). The researcher suggest that other researchers can conduct the similar research and explore deeply about the material presented by the writer in order to perfect and develop Speech Acts in relation to creative writing, and more about ELT.
