Abstract as one of the elements of academic writing should be written with a dense amount of information by presenting high level of lexical density. The abstract also should be written down with simple sentences which are shown by using low of grammatical intricacy. This study aimed to reveal the level of Lexical Density and Grammatical Intricacy in the abstracts that were written by the students of English Department at Universitas Tidar. The writer used descriptive qualitative analysis to analyze the data. The data sources were nine students’ paper abstracts in the school year of 2019/2020 that have been uploaded in Universitas Tidar Repository (repositori.untidar.ac.id). The data were measured by using Ure’s theory to find out the Lexical Density level and Eggins’ formula to find out the Grammatical Intricacy level. The results showed that most of the students still wrote their abstracts with low Lexical Density in their abstracts. Abstract 7(58.70%) has the highest Lexical Density and Abstract 5 (49.49%) has the lowest Lexical Density. The highest Grammatical Intricacy was found in Abstract 3 (2.00) and the lowest Grammatical Intricacy was found in Abstract 8 (1.28).The writer suggested the students pay more attention in arranging their sentences in order to make a good abstract.
