SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF EFL STUDENTS’ ENGAGEMENT DURING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE LEARNING

For approximately two years, students and educators have been using the online learning and teaching system to break the chain of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Considering many things, including the security aspect for students and educators, the Indonesian government has officially made a new policy: limited face-to-face learning. This significant change triggered researchers to discover more about students' engagement in the EFL classrooms during limited face-to-face learning. This research intended to fulfill two objectives concerning the problem as explained above. First, to know students' Engagement in EFL classrooms during limited face-to-face learning. Second, to know what factors affect students' engagement in the EFL classrooms during limited face-to-face learning. This study belongs to the Qualitative Case Study research, which used the interactive data analysis model that Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). It carried out three stages; data condensation, data display, making and verifying conclusions. The researchers used methodology triangulation through the three research instruments to collect the data: observation, questionnaire, and interview. This study's participants are twelve grade students and two English teachers of SMA N 2 Magelang City. According to questionnaire results behavior, engagement occurs most often with limited face-to-face learning in the English classroom. Observations and interviews were also held to answer what factors influence students' Engagement in EFL classrooms during limited face-to-face learning? These results prove that the aspects of motivation, discipline, attention, and focus significantly affect students' engagement. Behavior Engagement occurs most often with the implementation of limited face-to-face learning in the English classroom, and the factors of discipline, attention, and focus significantly affect students' engagement. To increase students' engagement in each type, The researchers suggest the theory from Davis (2014). According to him, three ways to elevate students' engagement: first, students must enjoy an efficient module, second, teachers should be enthusiastic about the learning materials, and second, teachers must value their students' learning and interest.
