SKRIPSI STUDENTS' LEARNING STYLES IN ENGLISH WRITING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA N 1 MERTOYUDAN

English is a foreign language for Indonesian students, therefore, they have a difficult way to master it. Considering that English is not commonly used in daily communication. They must have their best way of learning English that called learning style. They must understand what the appropriate learning style that needed to maximize their learning. It is hard for them to know their own learning style. This study discusses students' learning styles. The purposes of this research are (1) to describe the kind of learning styles of tenth graders of SMA N 1 Mertoyudan. (2) to describe activities and how students apply their own learning styles. This study was conducted using descriptive qualitative study. The writer used observations, questionnaires, and interviews in collecting data. The data from the documentation are classified into three types of learning styles. They are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic style. The writer observed the tenth graders IPA 3 at SMA N 1 Mertoyudan. The results showed that the writer found different students learning styles. The total of visual learners were 67,0% (24 from 36 students), and the auditory learners were 22,0% (8 from 36 students), and the kinesthetic learners are 11,0% (4 from 36 students). Therefore, more than half of students use visual learning style because they are already familiar with activities and interactions that are carried out directly by learning. The results of this study were expected to be a reference for teachers in design learning activities in the classroom in order to be able to adjust which learning style is suitable to use in the classroom.
