The ability to write cannot be separated from reading comprehension. To have good a writing ability, a writer must have ideas or information. They can get ideas or information from reading comprehension of a text. Both of them are equally important in the process of learning English. However, it is unclear how students’ reading comprehension and writing ability and whether there is a significant relationship between reading comprehension and writing ability in the tenth graders MIPA at MAN 1 Kebumen. This study aims to determine the reading comprehension, writing ability, and the significant relationship between students' reading comprehension and writing ability in the descriptive text among the 10th graders MIPA at MAN 1 Kebumen. The method of this research was quantitative which was to discover the relationship between reading comprehension and writing ability. The population was the 10th graders MIPA of MAN 1 Kebumen, consisting of 30 students as the sample selected by using simple random sampling. The data were collected by testing reading comprehension and writing ability. The writer used descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment in SPSS 25.0 to analyze the data. The finding of this study indicates that the average reading comprehension test was 77.97, and the average score on the writing ability test shows 67.87. The coefficient correlation is 0.402, which exhibits a medium relationship since it was within the interval of 0.40-0599, which can also be said that the relationship is positive. The hypothesis testing showed that the rxy is 0.402 more than the r table 0.36. It indicates a significant correlation. Based on the finding, it could be sum up that the Ha was accepted. Therefore, there was a significant relationship between students' reading comprehension and writing ability in the descriptive text at the 10th graders MIPA of MAN 1 Kebumen. In suggestion, students have to pay more concern to the explicit meaning in the text and can better relate it to information from the outside in reading comprehension. Students are also expected to pay more consideration to all of the component of writing. It is also hoped that teachers can use all levels of Barrett's taxonomy to evaluate students' reading comprehension in the future.
