SKRIPSI USING COLLABORATIVE WRITING STRATEGY THROUGH DROPBOX TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' RECOUNT TEXT WRITING SKILL IN SMP N 1 SECANG

Writing is an activity to produce an article based on someone’s ideas, opinions, or thoughts about something. Writing skills are talking about expressing ideas and involve several components, including content, organization, language use, diction, and mechanics. Unfortunately, an organization is still a problem in recount text writing skills, especially for EFL students. Apart from these reasons, motivation is also a factor that affects students’ writing abilities. The reason why the students have lack skill in writing recount and have low motivation is because the teacher still uses the conventional media and the learning strategy doesn’t attract the students’ interest in writing recount text. Based on the problems, the researcher proposed the solution by implementing collaborative writing strategy and supported by media called Dropbox. The objective of this study are (1) to find out whether the use of collaborative writing by Dropbox increases students' motivation in learning recount text writing skill (2) to find out whether the use of collaborative writing by Dropbox improves students' Recount text writing skill. The subject of this study was 32 eight grades students of SMP N 1 Secang. Meanwhile the variable of the study was students’ recount text motivation and writing skill. The researcher applied three cycles, consist of pre-cycle, cycle I and cycle II, of Classroom Action Research as the suitable method for this study. In this research, the interview, observation, questionnaire, documentation, and test technique were used to collect the data. The result of this study showed that the implementation of collaborative writing using Dropbox can increase the motivation to write recount text. There were more than 75% of the students had a good motivation. The other result was the use of collaborative writing with Dropbox can improve the ability to write recount text for students. The average score of students' recount text writing reaches 76.97, which means that more than 75% of students have reached the specified KKM. Furthermore, the research found out that organization being the highest improvement with the average score 15.13. It can be assumed that collaborative strategy with Dropbox can improve students writing skill and increase students’ motivation.
