Speaking is one of the most challenging skills in English to learn. Speaking, which emphasizes communicating in English, makes this skill challenging to apply in everyday life, especially for EFL. Some people easily understand the message conveyed in English when the conversation occurs but face difficulties answering in English. Unfortunately, some students still rarely practice speaking during the teaching and learning process, affecting their fear of making mistakes when asked to speak in English. It also happens to the higher education majors in English Education Department. Using attractive teaching and learning media will help students overcome their speaking problems. The use of interesting teaching and learning media attracts the students to contribute to the teaching and learning process. The writer is interested in studying students' perspectives on using teaching media called TikTok, which can help them overcome their problems in speaking. The aims of this study are (1) to describe students' perception of using TikTok video as learning speaking media in higher education and (2) to find out the advantages and challenges students perceive in using TikTok video as learning speaking media in higher education. The subject of this study was 40 students of the English Education Department at Tidar University in the academic year 2019-2021 who had already downloaded or played TikTok. A descriptive qualitative study was used in this study to help the writer describe the finding more explicitly using the description from the participant's experience. The writer used questionnaires, interviews, and documentation as the study instruments of this study. The writer handed out the questionnaire, which consisted of 18 items, to 40 respondents and did the interview with 6 interviewees. After that, the writer analyzed the result of the data using the theory of Miles et al. (2014), which was validated by using data validation according to Denzin (1978). This study showed that the respondents gave favorable judgments about using TikTok to learn speaking media in higher education. Most of them perceived the advantages of learning speaking skills through TikTok videos. However, this study also found a challenge the respondents face when using TikTok to teach speaking media. All in all, the students' challenge was resolved by the benefits of using Tiktok as learning speaking media.
