SKRIPSI ENGLISH TEACHER’S DIFFICULTIES IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION FOR TWELFTH GRADERS IN SMAN 1 GRABAG DURING PANDEMIC ERA

The impact of Covid-19 pandemic has hampered all aspects of life, especially in the field of education, so that the teaching and learning process, which some times ago was conducted online and now starting to hold face-to-face meetings in classrooms in several schools, but still adhered to health protocols. Limited faceto- face learning in high schools in several schools in Indonesia has been going on for the past few months, including at SMA N 1 Grabag, which has implemented limited face-to-face learning since October 2021. Teaching with limited time, space, and students in difficult times like today is certainly an obstacle for a teacher in teaching and delivering subject matter in a class. This study aims to analyze the difficulties of English teachers in teaching English, especially reading comprehension for twelfth graders during the Covid- 19 pandemic at SMAN 1 Grabag. The method used in this study is qualitative case study. The data were collected by observation, interviews with two English teachers, and distributed questionnaires. The subjects of this study were two English teachers and fifteen students of twelfth graders of SMAN 1 Grabag as a sample. The results of this study indicated that the teacher‟s difficulties in teaching English, especially reading comprehension during this pandemic situation for the twelfth grade has two points that are not easy. The main problem and difficulties in teaching reading comprehension are in terms of the situation of limitations during the pandemic and the factor of the low motivation of students in reading the material itself. In this problem the students vocabulary are less and they‟re need to readjustment of face-to-face learning during the pandemic in order to make them more interested and active. So it was concluded that the difficulties of the English teachers in teaching reading comprehension for the twelfth grade of SMAN 1 Grabag during the pandemic was divided into two sides. The first English teacher minimized these difficulties by implementing technology media such as kahoot applications, google forms and others, while the second English teacher solved the problems to minimize these difficulties by choosing the SQ3R strategy. As a result, teachers are able to make students more enthusiastic in understanding of reading and they also find it easier to convey reading comprehension material during the pandemic.
