Communication is an important aspect of society. People interact each other through communication. Some aspects must be considered to make communication becomes more communicatively. Uncommunicative students’ still have difficulty in speaking English. It happens when students do not understand the meaning of their speaking partner. It makes them get misunderstandings during communication. Then, understanding through the cooperative principle is important. The objectives of the study are to know the types of conversational maxims of students’ dialogue at speaking practice of the eleventh graders of MA Ma’arif Darul Aman Pringsurat Temanggung in the School Year 2022/2023 and to know the most dominant conversational maxims of students’ dialogue at speaking practice of the eleventh graders of MA Ma’arif Darul Aman Pringsurat Temanggung in the School Year 2022/2023. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research where the writer describes the types of conversational maxims in every data. The writer took fourteen eleventh students of MA Ma’arif Darul Aman Pringsurat Temanggung as the subject of the research. to conduct the data the writer recorded the students speaking activity in their class. The writer analyzed the types of conversational maxims based on Grice’s theory of cooperative principle, and Kippendorf in Dewanti (2019) content analysis as the representation of the data analyzes. The result shows there are four conversational maxims found in students’ dialogue of eleventh graders MA Ma’arif Darul Aman Pringsurat Temanggung. They are conversational maxim of quantity with 21 data (48.00%), conversational maxim of quality with 6 data (14.00%), conversational maxim of manner with 7 data (16.00%), and 10 data (22.00%) containing of conversational maxim quality. It can be concluded that the most dominant coversational maxim use by the students’ dialogue of eleventh graders of MA Ma’arif Darul Aman Pringsurat Temanggung is maxim of quantity which get 48.00 %. It shows that maxims usually needed in our daily talk. It implies that learning maxims is important in speaking English, especially for the teachers and the students while teaching and learning process. It function to improve the teachers and the students mastery in speaking English by understanding the maxims. Then, it motivates the students to communicate using English inside or outside the class.
