SKRIPSI USING ”HMWDYG” GAME TO IMPROVE DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE EIGHTH GRADERS OF SMPN 2 MUNGKID IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2022/2023

Writing skills are expressing ideas, opinions, and feelings to other parties through written language. At school, students spent a lot of time and even English language lessons at school still use traditional learning methods, which do not provide an opportunity for students to understand and the teacher only assesses the whole class without personal feedback. Due to the SMP N 2 Mungkid which has resulted in schools not being able to meet face-to-face, learning must be done online. This study was conducted to improve students writing skills of eighth graders of SMPN 2 Mungkid in the school year of 2022/2023 through the “How many words do you get” game. This research was action research. The “How many words do you get” game were applied to improve the students’ skills in learning descriptive text. This research aims to find empirical evidence of whether or not the “How many words do you get” game is effective in teaching descriptive text writing skills to the eighth graders of SMPN 2 Mungkid. The objectives of this research are to describe the improvement of descriptive text speaking skills after the implementation of the “How many words do you get” game. The methodology of this research was Class Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was VIII c students of SMPN 2 Mungkid in the school year of 2022/2023, due to the covid 19 pandemic outbreak and government policies, the researcher only took a few samples from the total number of class 8c. The researcher took 32 students in class 8c with permission from the school and applied the rules of the government health protocol. The writer used tests and non-test to collect the data. The test is about writing tests while the non-test is observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The finding of this study showed that based on questionnaire and observation, the use of the “How many words do you get” game to teach descriptive text writing skills increases the students’ scores. The result of the research showed in Pre-cycle is 56.75, Cycle I is 63.2, and Cycle II is 77. It means using the “How many words do you get” game improve students’ writing score in some aspects such as Content, Organization, Vocabulary, Language, And Mechanics. There is a great improvement in descriptive text writing skills after being taught by using the “How many words do you get” game.
