SKRIPSI USING PREDICTION STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ REPORT TEXT READING SKILL AT MTsN 2 KOTA MAGELANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

All four English language skills: listening, speaking, writing, and reading, must be mastered by students as they study English. The students need reading skill to get information from books, articles, the internet, and other sources that provide text. There are several ways to improve the students' reading skill with the teacher's role in delivering material to the students, as one of the essential aspects of the learning process. Thus, a study is required to be carried out to determine if prediction strategy can improve students’ report text reading skill. The aims of this study were: a) to determine if the use of Prediction Strategy can improve the students' report text reading skill of the ninth grade at MTsN 2 Kota Magelang and b) to find out how the improvement in students' report text reading skill after the implementation of Prediction Strategy to the ninth grade at MTsN 2 Kota Magelang is. The research method used was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were the ninth graders of MTsN 2 Kota Magelang in the school year 2022/2023. The writer chose class 9B. The total number of students is 31, consisting of 13 males and 18 females. The writer used test, questionnaire, observation, and documentation to collect data. The results of this study were as follows: 1) The use of prediction strategy can improve the students' report text reading skill of the ninth grade at MTsN 2 Kota Magelang. There was an improvement from Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II, as evidenced by the results of observation and questionnaire. 2) There was an improvement in students' report text reading skill after the implementation of Prediction Strategy to the ninth grade at MTsN 2 Kota Magelang. The students’ average score In Pre-Cycle test was 62.41, then the students’ average score after the students were taught by using Prediction Strategy in Cycle I was 69.67. It means that there was an improvement from pre-cycle to Cycle I. The students average score in cycle II was 81.93 and it also was improved from Cycle I. Based on the research result, the writer would like to suggest that the students to pay more attention to the teacher explanation and improve their reading skill using various strategies, one of which is prediction strategy.
