Reading comprehension is an essential thing in understanding a text. Reading comprehension is also a sign that someone understands a reading text. Academic journals significantly influence higher education because they have so many functions. Reading comprehension of academic journals is very much needed. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The study was conducted in the reading class which the participant were the fifth semester students. The data were obtained from questionnaires and interviews. The data is a type of reading comprehension difficulty and its causes. Reading comprehension difficulties are divided into five indicators: determining main ideas, understanding vocabulary, making inference, identifying references, and finding detailed information. Based on the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the level of reading comprehension difficulty in reading academic journals in academic reading classes at Universitas Tidar in the 2022/2023 academic year reached 60.66%. Determining the main idea is the aspect with the most significant difficulty level, at 63.66%. In another part, the results showed that 63.12% had difficulty making inferences, 62.27% had difficulty understanding vocabulary, 60.26% had trouble finding detailed information, and 48.91% had difficulty making references.
