The existence of 4C skills (critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity) in 21st-century learning demands the teachers and students integrate them into the classroom. The new teaching variation should be carried out in teaching and learning as a part of creativity. However, MA Yajri has less variation in teaching English writing. It affects the students’ achievements and abilities in writing. Thus, to address this issue, the writer researched to develop the student’s writing skills using videos from TED-Ed’s YouTube channel. This study aimed to enhance the ability of eleventh graders students, as 21stcentury learners, to write explanation texts through TED-Ed videos. It focused on using TED-Ed videos as learning media to improve students’ ability in writing. It examined the enhancement of students’ writing ability in explanation texts after they were taught using TED-Ed videos. It also analyzed how effectively using TEDEd videos as learning media was. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) in some cycles (Pre-cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2). In each cycle, the writer carried out some sequence actions; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The writer planned the action by dentifying the problems. Then, the writer took some actions to solve the problem. After doing the action, the writer observed and evaluated the result as a reflection. The findings of this study are obtained from the quantitative and qualitative data in each cycle. There were tests, questionnaires, observation sheets, diaries, and documentation. It is found that the average score of Pre-Cycle is 68.41. The average score increases after the students are taught through TED-Ed videos. It is 73.93 in Cycle 1 and 80.07 in Cycle 2. The improvement from Pre-Cycle to Cycle 1 is 5.52, Cycle 1 to Cycle 2 is 6.14, and the incremental improvement from Pre-Cycle to Cycle 2 is 11.66. Furthermore, their motivation in joining English writing classes shows development. The students also gain confidence in writing every cycle. There is a change in their behaviors, knowledge, and abilities in writing explanation texts. In other words, using the videos on TED-Ed’s YouTube channel as a learning medium is compelling. Teachers can implement this in writing classes to add more variation in teaching and learning, especially in writing explanation texts.
