English pre-service teachers, who were undergraduate students from the faculty of education and teacher training at Universitas Tidar, conducted an internship teaching program that included making a formative reading assessment in the form of a Multiple-Choice Test (MCT). The purpose of this study was to determine the content validity of the formative reading assessment created by pre-service teachers in Magelang, based on the 2013 curriculum. The study aimed to assess whether the assessment conform to the curriculum indicators and to what extent they conformed to the curriculum.
Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study involved six pre-service teachers serving in various high schools in Magelang as research subjects. Data collection included documentation of the pre-service teachers' formative reading assessments and supporting data was Indicators based on the 2013 curriculum found in preservice teachers' lesson plans. The writer used a document checklist to analyze the conformity between the formative reading assessments and the indicators specified in the 2013 English curriculum, categorizing them based on their content validity level.
The results of the study showed that out of the 50 MCTs created by the six preservice teachers, only 24 (49% out of 100%) conformed to the indicators based on the 2013 curriculum, indicating insufficient content validity. The remaining 26 items (52%) did not reflect the 2013 English curriculum. Consequently, the formative reading assessment made by the pre-service teachers in Magelang did possess insufficient content validity and cannot be considered a good test.
To enhance the validity of the study, expert judgments from two specialized lecturers at Universitas Tidar were involved. Expert 1 disagreed on one item, which accounted for 98% of the total agreement items, while Expert 2 fully agreed with the writer's analysis, resulting in a perfect agreement percentage of 100%. The study concludes that the high agreement levels between the two experts underscore the substantial contribution of their judgment in strengthening the overall validity of the study.
