Evaluation in education is an essential process that teachers must do. One form of evaluation is doing item analysis. However, most teachers still did not do item analysis to know the quality of the test items that were tested on the students.
The objectives of this study were: (a) to find out the item discrimination index of the twelfth-grade English summative test of SMK Negeri 2 Magelang and (b) to find out the distractors analysis of the twelfth-grade English summative test of SMK Negeri 2 Magelang.
The writer conducted content analysis research, which used the English summative test items, answer key, and 36 student responses in one class of SMK Negeri 2 Magelang as the subjects. The writer used a documentation technique to collect the data. This research was included in quantitative research because the data was in the form of numbers and percentages; also, the calculation process used the ANATES V4 Software.
The results of this study indicated that most of the test items still have less quality in the form of discrimination index and distractors. The results of this study showed that out of a total of 30 test items, only 10 items that valid. Of 10 valid items, there were two items (20%) were poor, one item (10%) was marginal, two items (20%) were reasonably good, and five items (50%) were very good. Then, there were 30 distractors, of which 16 (53%) were functioning distractors, and 14 (47%) were non-functioning distractors. All in all, the very good item category of the item discrimination index and functioning distractors were the two categories that stood out the most. Thus, the test items were already good but needed some actions to improve them.
The analysis of the item discrimination index and distractors enabled the teachers to evaluate the quality of the items so they could make revisions based on the problems to be utilized in subsequent exams.
