In English Language Teaching, evaluation is a crucial part of the instructional process. To accurately evaluate the students' abilities, a test must be well-designed and of high quality. Item analysis is a common method for assessing test reliability. The author found that the summative exam was written by the primary instructor alone as a final exam, and that no analysis had ever been done on the test.
This study aimed to identify the item difficulty and discrimination index of English summative test in primary students. The study was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Mungseng, with the subjects being fifth-grade students in the academic year 2021/2022. A descriptive quantitative approach was used by employing documentation as the data collection techniques. The writer uses a summative English test with 15 multiple-choice items and 37 responders to evaluate. After that, the data findings were examined using the theory of Sabri, and Kunandar (2013) and verified using Arikunto's method for data validation (2006).
Based on the study's findings and analysis, it can be said that 33% of the multiple-choice questions were somewhat challenging, while 67% were straightforward. The discriminating index percentage for the 15 multiple-choice questions under study showed that 20% of the items were substandard, 67% were adequate, and 13% were good.
