The Covid-19 pandemic situation made the Government announce the learning activities into e-learning. This policy and its relation to teachers’ strategies in teaching are interesting to be studied. This research focused on the teachers’ strategies in teaching English that focus onwriting skills with e-learning classes during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aimed to identify the teaching strategies in English e-learning classes during the Covid-19 pandemic at SMA N 1 Mertoyudan and to know to what extent the strategies help teachers in the English e-learning process.
This type of research was field research with a qualitativeapproach. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, interview, and documentation. 3 English teachers became respondents in this study.
The results of the study show that (1) The teachers use different strategies because the students’ grades are different. In writing skills, several strategies that are commonly used by the teacher are namely Brainstorming, Computer simulation, Demonstration, Independent study, Large group discussion, Presentation, Direct student contact, One-to-one precepting, and Role modeling. However, all of the English teachers use the video-based learning model and virtual education through WhatsApp, Ms. Team, Google Meet, and Quizizz. (2) Strategies in teaching through e-learning classes during the Covid-19 pandemic greatly assisted teachers in the teaching and learning process to achieve learning goals. The writer suggests to the teacher apply the strategies based on the needs and which will facilitate students’ learning during the virtual learning process.
