Reading is one of the four skills in learning English that vocational high school students must master. Reading is one of the activities that is necessary for comprehending texts. Reading comprehension is the understanding of the written words, the understanding of the content being read and the construction of the meaning of the text. However, many students still have difficulty in reading comprehension especially in recount text. The use of interesting strategy can increase students‟ motivation and students‟ reading comprehension and reduce their difficulties. The objectives of this study were (1) to find out whether the use of Double Brain Power Strategy can increase motivation in learning recount text reading comprehension learning motivation of the tenth graders of Kesdam IV/ Diponegoro Vocational High School, and (2) to find out whether the use of Double Brain Power Strategy can increase recount text reading comprehension of the tenth graders of Kesdam IV/ Diponegoro Vocational High School
The writer conducted a classroom action research (CAR), which wasdivided into Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subjects of this study are 28 students in the tenth grader of “Asisten Keperawatan A” of Kesdam IV/ Diponegoro Vocational High School. The writer used observation, questionnaire, documentation, and test to collect the data.
The results of this study indicated that the students were motivated in receiving the implementation of double brain power strategy in recount text reading comprehension. The writer compared the observation and questionnaire results in each cycles to know the increased of the students‟ motivation. In Pre-cycle the average of students‟ motivation was 42% or very
low, in Cycle I was 60% or fair and in Cycle II was 81% or high. The result showed that was improvement of recount text reading comprehension in each cycles. The average score in Pre-cycle was 63.1 or fair, in Cycle I was 71.39 or good, and in Cycle II was 81.17 or good. Therefore, the writer suggests to the teacher to use interesting strategy while teaching and the double brain power strategy can be an alternative strategy. For the students, it is better to improve their recount text reading comprehension with apply the double brain power strategy.
