SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING INTERJECTION UTTERANCES ON “ENCANTO” AS DIGITAL MEDIA IN TEACHING SPEAKING

Interjections are essential things on the Teaching Speaking for learners, but there are no direct attentions paid to them in sociolinguistic pragmatics or translation theories. Moreover, sometimes the learners give irrelevant interjection’s response to other that makes the conversation is unclear. But when the learners can understand knowledge about type and function of interjections, it will make the communication with the interlocutors runs well because the message is understandable and relevant.
The writer uses Encanto Movie to be researched in order to analyze interjection in the characters’ utterances. The study's objectives are to know the type and function of interjection in the Encanto Movie and the most dominant of type interjection maxim in Encanto Movie. In addition to it had contribution in teaching speaking of learners to their teaching speaking.
The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. Furthermore, the technique of collecting data is documentation where the transcript of Encanto Movie by Walt Disney (2021). The writer analyzed the types and function of interjection based on Ameka’s theory (2006). Then, to analyze the data the writer uses Krippendorff (2004) and Arikunto (2014) code content analysis.
The result shows there are 50 interjections found in Encanto Movie. They are divided two parts. There is primary and secondary part of interjections. They are divide into 17 times expressive primary interjection of quantity or 0.34% of the total findings, 15 times conative primary interjection of quantity or 0.30% of the total findings, and 10 times phatic primary interjection of quantity or 0.20% of the total findings. Furthermore, 6 times expressive secondary interjection of quantity or 0.12% of the total findings, 2 times conative secondary interjection of quantity or 0.04% of the total findings, and 0 times phatic secondary interjection of quantity or 0.00% of the total findings. Moreover, the total finding of the research shows the most dominant interjection is expressive primary interjection of relation with 17 times or 0.34% of the total findings.
The understanding interjection in conversation in the movie is suitable to improve the learners’ communicative competence which is viewed as the ultimate aim of oral teaching speaking English will be increased.
The writer hopes that the learners, education facilitators and other researcher can use this finding as a reference or illustration practice interjection in conversation that might happen in teaching speaking English.
