Reading is essential for students to increase their knowledge and get the main ideas in a text, especially in English. Based on the observations, students at SMKN 2 Kota Magelang had obstacles in the learning process, particularly in reading comprehension. The students feel bored with the teacher's classical learning strategy, and students' habits of carrying handphones also make them infocus, which affects student learning outcomes. Teachers need learning strategies to overcome these problems, using the Practice-Rehearsal Pairs strategy to improve students' reading skills. The Practice-Rehearsal Pairs strategy will produce an active and collaborative learning process, making students more interested and enjoying learning.
This study aimed to determine the Practice-Rehearsal Pairs strategy's effectiveness in improving students' reading comprehension in class X PPLG at SMKN 2 Kota Magelang. The research method used is quantitative with quasi-experimental research that applied a pretest and posttest nonequivalent group design. The population in this study were students of class X PPLG from SMKN 2 Kota Magelang, and the sample was students of class X PPLG I and X PPLG II, with total sample consisting of 72 students.
The results of this study indicated that the mean score of the posttest in the experimental class is higher (89.44) than the mean score in the control class (82.78). It was also supported by the results of the independent sample t-test showing that the Sig. 0.00 < 0.05 means that there was a significant difference in the implementation of those strategies. In brief, implementing the Practice-Rehearsal Pairs strategy is effective as a learning strategy for enhancing students' reading comprehension. Also, it helps students to achieve the reading learning goals.
