SKRIPSI USING GROUP RESUME TECHNIQUE TO ENHANCE EXPLANATION TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF SMA N 4 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2022/2023

Writing is one of the four language skills that require broad understanding, creativity, and critical thinking from students, yet most students still see writing as a challenge that needs to be solved and understood. However, most students still need help to acquire writing skills. Using interesting techniques and media can increase students' motivation, interest, and writing skills and reduce their difficulties.
The objectives of this study were (a) to know whether using Group Resume Technique for teaching explanation text to the eleventh students' of SMA N Magelang 4 can increase motivation and (b) To know whether using Group Resume Technique for teaching explanation text to the eleventh graders of SMA N 4 Magelang in the school year 2022/2023 can improve their writing skills or not.
The writer conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR), divided into Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subjects of this study were 35 students in the XI Mipa 4 of SMA Negeri 4 Magelang. The writer collected the data by using observation, questionnaire, documentation, and tests.
The results of this study indicated that students were motivated to receive the implementation of the Group Resume Technique in writing explanation texts. The writer compared the observation and questionnaire results in a pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II to know the enhancement of the student's motivation; in the pre-cycle, the average of students' motivation was 46.1%, in the cycle I was 69.0%, and in the cycle II was 85.9%. It indicated that more than half of the students were active, listened to the teacher's explanation, asked the teacher about the problematic material, and did the tasks in both meetings to write an explanation text. The test results showed that most students enhanced their writing skills in descriptive text material. The average score for pre-cycle was 71.0, the average for the cycle I test was 80.3, and the average student's writing score in cycle II was 83.5. Only six students did not pass the standard minimum score. It means that the students have reached more than 75%.
Implementing the Group Resume Technique in explanation text material in this teaching-learning process can enhance the students' motivation and writing skills in the learning process of writing explanation text.
