Every sentence serves a distinct purpose. Imperative sentences, for instance, are used to communicate instructions or directives. In English-language conversations, imperative sentences are frequently used to offer advice or provide details that make instructions easier for readers to understand. For high school students, understanding imperative sentences in procedure material is crucial. Students must comprehend imperative sentences in procedure text, especially class X students of SMAN 1 Mertoyudan, who adopt the Merdeka Curriculum. Students must complete the Elements "Writing - Presenting." However, students encountered several challenges when using imperative sentences in procedure text. Most tenth graders require phrase formulation and English grammar assistance to create imperative sentences. Based on these problems, the authors analyzed imperative sentences in procedure texts written by class X students of SMAN 1 Mertoyudan.
The objectives of this study are to find out the type, form, and frequency of the most dominant types and forms of imperative sentences used by tenth-grade students. In order to analyze the types and forms of imperative sentences found in student procedure texts, content analysis was used in this study. The 20 procedure text of students in grade 10 was used to collect the data. The writer gathered information through teacher interviews and documentation. The writer analyzed the data by categorizing the different imperative sentence types and forms. Then, discover the imperative sentences that students most frequently use.
The writer found three types and two forms of imperative sentences in 20 procedure texts. The research results revealed that there were 135 imperative sentence data. There are 123 data for imperative sentences of command type, 7 for imperative sentences of direction type, and 5 for imperative sentences of prohibition type. As for the forms, there are positive with 130 data and negative with 5 data. The type most used by students is the command type. At the same time, the form of the sentence that students often use is the positive form. Based on these findings, students use command types and positive forms more often in their procedure texts because they are easy to use.
