As the first most learned language, English material accessibility and suitability in different eras and areas is essential to achieve a certain correct objective. It is the duty of the textbook as the main source to conduct learning and teaching practice appropriately since its production is based on the latest curriculum—here, Merdeka Curriculum. Related to the English lesson, Genre- Based Approach (GBA) and skill implementation are the main concept emphasized in that curriculum also in the textbook being analyzed here entitled “Esensi Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK Kelas X Kurikulum Merdeka”. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze GBA cycle through the activities of eight whole units with the skill implementation. The study used a qualitative approach utilizing content analysis through the textbook above. The data was categorized with GBA cycle including BKOF, MOT, JCOT, and ICOT (B. M. Derewianka & Jones, 2016) and how activities implemented under four basic English skills like reading, listening, writing, and speaking (Brown, 2004a). The finding of this study showed those things existed either in expression or genre material. Nevertheless, the pattern of its implementation was varied. Only two units out of eight with complete and sequence cycles, yet other units tend to skip or mix those four cycles. The same case was also for skill implementation, where only in some main activities’ sections were the integrated four skills into each other in assessing the students. In conclusion, this textbook needs improvement in having better arrangements that can increase better learning and teaching process since either cycle and skill have been implemented. The implications of this study are the newest data on textbook analysis, especially in GBA implementation. Nevertheless, the content analysis limitation could suggest seeking teachers' and students’ perspectives after this textbook has already been used at school.
