SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PEER CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL OF TENTH GRADERS AT SMA N 2 MAGELANG

Speaking skill is important in language learning to avoid misunderstandings. The students encountered some difficulties during speaking class, including a lack of interaction and incorrect pronunciation. These issues can be overcome by employing Peer Corrective Feedback as an interactive learning method to improve their speaking skill. The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Peer Corrective Feedback in teaching speaking to tenth graders at SMA N 2 Magelang and determine whether the students who are using Peer Corrective Feedback have better speaking skills and those who are using lecturing technique The method of the study is quasi-experimental. The sample of this study were two classes of tenth grade students at SMA N 2 Magelang. The experimental group was 36 students in X3, and the control group was 35 students from in X2. The experimental group was taught using Peer Corrective Feedback, while the control group was taught using lecturing. The data were collected using two tests: pre-test and post-test. The results of the tests analyzed using t-test on SPSS 25. After implementing Peer Corrective Feedback, the writer discovered a significant difference in the student's speaking skills. The result of the test shows that the t-test is higher than t-table (7.296>1.667). It means there is a significance difference in speaking skill between experimental and control groups. The mean post outcomes indicate the experimental group have better speaking skill than control group. The experimental group scored 87, while the control group earned 81. In addition, based on N-Gain calculation, the average improvement achieved by the students who were taught with Peer Corrective Feedback was 45% in the moderate effectiveness category. Based on the results above, the writer concluded that Peer Corrective Feedback is effective in teaching speaking to tenth graders.
