SKRIPSI ENHANCING STUDENTS` WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT THROUGH “PASS MESSAGE” GAMES MEDIA AS ELT PRACTICES IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION

Writing skills are expressing ideas, opinions, and feelings to other parties through written language. At school, students spent a lot of time and even English language lessons at school still use traditional learning methods, which do not provide an opportunity for students to understand and the teacher only assesses the whole class without personal feedback. Due to the SMP N 9 Magelang which has resulted in schools. This study was conducted to improve students writing skills of eighth graders of SMPN 9 Magelang in the school year of 2021/2022 through the “Pass Message” game.
This research was action research. The “Pass Message” game were applied to improve the students’ skills in learning descriptive text. This research aims to find empirical evidence of whether or not the “Pass Message” game is effective in English Language Teaching in descriptive text writing skills to the eighth graders of SMPN 9 Magelang. The objectives of this research are to describe the improvement of descriptive text writing skills after the implementation of the “Pass Message” game.
The methodology of this research was Class Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was VIII b students of SMP N 9 Magelang in the school year of 2021/2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and government policies, the writer only took a few samples from the total number of class 8b. The writer took 15 students in class 8b with permission from the school and applied the rules of the government health protocol. The writer used tests and non-test to collect the data. The test is about writing tests while the non-test is observation, questionnaire, and documentation.
The finding of this study showed that based on questionnaire and observation, the use of the “Pass Message” game to teach descriptive text writing skills increases the students` scores. The result of the research showed in Pre-cycle is 52%, Cycle I is 59%, and Cycle II is 77%. It means using the “Pass Message” game improve students’ writing score in some aspects such as content, organization, vocabulary, language, and mechanics. There is a great improvement in descriptive text writing skills after being taught by using the “Pass Message” game.
