SKRIPSI TEACHER’S ROLES IN TEACHING ENGLISH IN SMA NEGERI 5 MAGELANG

The teacher's main role is to impart knowledge to students and the primary source of knowledge in the classroom. At school, several teachers still get confused about positioning themselves in the classroom. This study was conducted to discover teacher’s role in the classroom of SMA Negeri 5 Magelang.
This research was trying to discover teacher’s role in learning process of SMA Negeri 5 Magelang. The objectives of this research were to discover teacher’s roles in the classroom during teaching and learning process and to find out the most dominant and least dominant teacher’s roles during teaching and learning process.
The methodology of this research was qualitative research. The subject of this research was one of the English teacher in SMA Negeri 5 Magelang. The data resource was from observation and audio recording during main core until closing teaching learning process. The data were analyzed qualitatively using Hubberman, Miles, & Sadana (2014) theory.
The finding of this study showed that based on observation and audio recording, teacher roles in teaching English were 287 teacher’s utterances. It was divided into 5 roles of teacher’s roles, they are: controller, director, manager, facilitator, and resource. The most dominant teacher’s role was teacher as a resource with 134 utterances, while the least teacher’s role with 20 utterances was teacher as a manager.
