SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE POWER OF TWO STRATEGY TO IMPROVE THE NINTH GRADERS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT SMP N 1 MERTOYUDAN

Reading is a process to obtain information and in the education field as part of learning process. The teachers need to know the suitable learning strategies to achieve the goal of the reading. The Power of Two strategy can assist the teachers in teaching and learning process. This strategy emphasizes two persons better than one to exchange their ideas in discussion active learning. The objective of this research is to know whether there is significant difference between the ninth graders’ reading comprehension that are taught by using The Power of Two strategy and those who are not taught using this strategy at SMP N 1 Mertoyudan in academic year 2022/2023.
This research used quasi experimental research and used nonequivalent control group design. This research conducted in two classes as experimental class which taught by The Power of Two and control class which not taught by The Power of Two strategy. The population was taken from the ninth graders of SMP N 1 Mertoyudan in academic year of 2022/2023 which consists of 150 students. The sample of this research was 32 students of experimental class and control class by using purposive sampling technique. The data collection gained from test. The data analyzed by using SPSS V22 program.
The result of the research showed that the mean score of experimental class and control class were 82.28 and 78.20. It means that the mean of experimental class was higher than control class. The result showed that value of Ttest was higher than the value of Ttable (2.789 > 1.999). It can be concluded that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected.
It means there is significant difference on students’ reading comprehension of learning outcomes who are taught by using The Power of Two strategy and who are not taught by using The Power of Two strategy. Moreover, this strategy is effective to improve the ninth graders’ reading comprehension at SMP N 1 Mertoyudan in academic year of 2022/2023.
