Many students had difficulties due to the lack of speaking activity. The challenges in speaking class from both internal and external. Internal challenges are personally related to students' self-ability in learning, while external challenges are from students' environments, such as teachers' ways of teaching English or class situations. Meanwhile, in speaking class, the students should be able to share their ideas or feelings about something orally.
To overcome the problem, the researcher is interested to conduct research that focuses on improving students speaking skill using the “Everyone is a Teacher Here” Strategy on TikTok. The aims are to know if the "Everyone is a Teacher Here" strategy on TikTok is improving the 11th graders’ motivation of speaking skill and to find out how high the "Everyone is a Teacher Here" strategy is in improving the 11th graders’ speaking skill.
The subject of the research was 36 students of 11TH MIPA 4 from SMAN 1 Muntilan. This applied classroom action research. The researcher used tests, observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation as the research instruments. The research was conducted in three phases are Pre-Cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. It was conducted in four steps namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.
The results of the research showed that the students’ speaking skill and students’ motivation improved. In Pre-Cycle the percentage of students’ motivation is 41%, 76% in Cycle 1, and 90% in Cycle 2. The mean of students’ speaking skill in Pre-Cycle is 57.92, Cycle 1 is 65.69, and in Cycle 2 79.17.
It can be concluded that, using the “Everyone is a Teacher Here” Strategy on TikTok can improve students’ motivation and students’ speaking skill of learning Explanation Text. This strategy and media make students participate actively during teaching–learning process.
