SKRIPSI ENHANCING STUDENTS’ EXPLANATION TEXT READING SKILL THROUGH TEAM QUIZ STRATEGY IN THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF SMA NEGERI 1 KOTA MUNGKID

Reading is a communication language in the form of writing used to obtain information. Reading skill are used to comprehend passages, textbooks, and references written in English. Team Quiz is a strategy that allows students to work together, discuss, and interact to determine mutual agreement. In reading, various kinds of texts are studied at the high school level. One of the texts that students must master is explanation text.
This study aims to find out whether or not the Team Quiz Strategy can enhance students’ Explanation Text Reading Skill in the eleventh graders of SMA N 1 Kota Mungkid. This research uses quantitative methods through Experimental Design. The study was conducted in SMA N 1 Kota Mungkid. The sample used in this study is 68 students of class XI taken from 2 different classes. Instruments in this study used pre-test and post-test to obtain the data. The study results can be seen from the Pre-Test and Post-Test scores in the experimental and control classes.
Based on the research result and discussion, there was an increase in learning outcomes in English reading skills using the team quiz strategy. The increase in the average experimental group (9.09) > an increase in the average value of the control group (5.72). The average N-Gain value obtained by the experimental group is included in the moderate category (0.30 ≤ g < 0.70). The paired sample t-test shows the significance (2-tailed) results in the experimental group (0.000) < the significant level (a) = 0.05. The test results indicate that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, or it can be interpreted that there was a significant difference between the average value before treatment (pre-test) and the average value after treatment (post-test).
The study's findings revealed that Team Quiz Strategy is considered effective in enhancing students' learning outcomes of explanation text reading skills in the eleventh graders of SMA N 1 Kota Mungkid. Therefore, it is suggested that English teachers apply the Team Quiz strategy in teaching reading since the teachers are beneficial for improving students' reading skills.
