Writing is one of the English skills students must acquire in learning English. To be able to write, students must be active and creative in constructing an idea and communicating it coherently. However, the students' lack of participation in teaching and learning contributes to their poor writing skills. Therefore, the teacher requires a creative teaching method to encourage student participation. One of the strategies that can be implemented is the Class Concern Strategy and Canva as media—in this study, employing Class Concern Strategy and Canva as media was implemented to increase students' writing skills on procedure text in High School Education.
This study was intended to fulfill two objectives. First, this study was conducted to know the students' activeness when the Class Concern Strategy and Canva were implemented in writing class procedure text. The second one is to find out how high-Class Concern Strategy and Canva improved students' writing skills on procedure text in High School Education.
The writer conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study was done in some stages: Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subject of this study was X-3 students of SMAN 10 Purworejo in the school year 2022/2023. The class was chosen as the subject because it has the lowest score average among the classes. The total of students was 36, and it consisted of 12 males and 24 females. The data collection techniques that were used were test and non-test. In the non-test method, there were observations, questionnaires, and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods.
The result showed a good improvement in students' activeness in procedure text writing class after the writer implemented the Class Concern Strategy and Canva as Media. The results of observation, questionnaire, and documentation proved it. The result of observation in Pre-Cycle was 52.50%, the observation in Cycle I was 65.27%, and it became 76.67% in Cycle II. The implementation of the Class Concern Strategy and Canva as Media also made improvements in writing skills. In the Pre-Cycle test, the average writing skill procedure text score was 67.83. After the Class Concern Strategy and Canva as Media were applied, the average student's score on the Cycle I test reached 73.11, which improved to 78.11 on the Cycle II test. Based on the results above, the writer concludes that using the Class Concern Strategy and Canva as Media could improve the students' activeness and significantly improve their procedure text writing skills.
